This journal will cover the following (ctrl + F to find specific headings):
 - Reference Sheets
 - Evolution
 - Move Learning

Reference Sheets

In order to use a Pokemon in the group they will need a reference sheet submitted first, without one they cannot partake in most group activities.

A reference sheet is a visual submission dedicated to storing and keeping track of information on an individual Pokemon. It's split into three components: the image, the background and the description.

It also needs an approved Design Check linked in its description for a quick approval into the group; otherwise it will be declined.

1) The Image
PKMN-CC Blue Moon Cresselia by PKMNCrescentCavern
  • A colored full body image is the bare minimum for a reference, you can draw more if you want to.

  • Your Pokemon should be drawn big enough so we can clearly see all it's features and details - if we have to zoom in then it's too small.

  • Your Pokemon can wear accessories but if it's obscuring details then you will have to draw an additional partial or fullbody showing the covered area. If someone were to draw your Pokemon they should only need to use your reference sheet to know what the Pokemon looks like.

  • Your reference sheet should be easy to view so animations should be avoided, else you may be asked to upload the animated version separately to the reference.

2) The Background

  • Having a background is optional, it is up to you if you want to use a template or list any information on it (e.g. name, sex, species, height, types, traits, etc).

  • Backgrounds that are made completely by yourself will give you both levels and caps. Anything else (backgrounds that are commissioned, gifted, free to use) will only get your Pokemon levels, but no caps. Make sure to credit the creator(s) when using background made by other people!

  • Reference sheets DO count towards background levels and are allowed to be reused for extra levels on all your Pokemon's reference sheets.

3) The Description

This is where all the essential information is stored for the Pokemon.
Please put them into your Deviant Art description and not into comments, sta.sh or other outside links/document.
You are free to add more than the following, but these are the compulsory ones:
  1. Link to Design Check
Link your approved Design Check here. Without an approved Design Check, your reference (and other design-based submissions) will be denied!
  2. Name
Something to call them by. Profanity, slurs and controversial names are to be avoided.
  3. Gender or Sex
Male (M), Female (F) or Other (O). This is for breeding purposes even if you don't intend to breed them. You can still freely decide how your Pokemon identifies itself.
  4. Identification Number (ID)
This is a unique number given to each Pokemon in the group and will be listed in your inventory.
  5. Species
What Pokemon species it is, including any additional mixed species.
  6. Types
What types this Pokemon has, including any additional blend types (Max of 4 types total. If all original Types of a Pokemon fit, they have to be used).
  7. Traits
Shiny / Variant / Blend / Mixed / Exclusive / Blue Moon / Blood Moon
  8. Hatch Date
The date the Pokemon's first reference sheet was uploaded. If born from a clutch then this is the clutch upload date.
  9. Ability
Choose the Pokemon's ability (Bulbapedia or Serebii). Can be regular or hidden.
Blends can also pick type-specific ones from their blend type.
  10. Moves
List all of the Pokemon's starting moves (Bulbapedia or Serebii) and link to any learnt moves.
If it's the Pokemon's first ref, use the most recent learnset from the latest mainline game.
  11. Level Total + Level Log
Write the Pokemon's current level total, capped at 100 (just like the games) AND
Link to where all the levels this Pokemon has gained, including Rare Candies and clutch images.

The level for your reference picture will need to be a level breakdown. E.g. "Ref Picture - 6 Levels (Fullbody =3 + Shading =2 + Simple BG =1)"
The rest can be level total. E.g. "A day in the forest - 5 Levels [Link]"
  12. Combat Power Total + Combat Power Log
Write the Pokemon's current CP total, all Pokemon start at 100 and are capped at 2000.
AND link to all CP increases including stardust receipts.

Some ideas of optional information you can add:
Nickname, Nature, Personality, Backstory, Family Tree

Evolution

  • The Pokemon evolving must have a ref sheet already submitted into the group by its current owner.
  • Pokemon that require levels to evolve need to be at the correct level before the evolution.
  • Pokemon that require levels AND a special condition to be met ignore the special condition and just meet the level requirement.
  • Pokemon that require anything other than levels will instead need to use one Evolution Shard when the receipt is made (even if there are multiple conditions for evolving you still only need to use one).
This includes: happiness, friendship, item, time of day, weather, trading, specific stats,
move learning, turning the console upside down or spinning your character around.
Conditions that are ignored in this group: game versions, gender requirements.
  • You do not have to keep the same colours and look of previous stages when evolving, but blend types must be kept (unless you have gone over the maximum of 4 types, then you will have to drop a blend type of your choice).
If your Pokemon gains that type upon evolving, it will then become a pure blend
(e.g. a Flying-Blend Charmeleon becomes a Pure Flying-Blend Charizard upon evolving)
  • Pokemon can de-evolve or revert back to lower stages by using a Reset Poffin in the Item Use & Evolution Chamber.
How to Evolve

  • You will need to submit a colored fullbody of each stage you're evolving into to the "Evolution Images" folder. (Example: to mega evolve Gible you will need to draw Gabite, Garchomp and Mega Garchomp all as coloured fullbodies). You can have another person draw the evolution image for you.
  • Fill out the evolution receipt in the Item Use & Evolution Chamber journal. Once approved by a mod the evolution will be made official in your inventory.
  • Submit a new reference sheet into the group with your evolved Pokemon (either as a new submission or by replacing the old one).

Written Evolutions

To evolve a Pokemon through written works, you will need to write 100 words per evolution stage.
  • It doesn't have to be a 100-word long in-depth description of the evolution, you just need to have some words leading up to the evolution and a basic description or mention of the stage(s) during your 100 words.
  • You cannot half the drawing requirements with half the written requirements for a single stage (i.e. fullbody sketch + 50 words) but you can have one evolution stage be a drawing and another evolution stage as a written work.
  • It's up to you if you want to mention shards, stones and poffins being used for the evolution.

  • Once done, you will still need to provide a visual design for us to check in your evolution receipt (or better yet, an approved design check link).
Example
100 words to evolve Charmander/Gible into Charmeleon/Gabite
Another 100 words to evolve Charmeleon/Gabite into Charizard/Garchomp
Another 100 words to mega evolve Charizard/Garchomp into MegaZard/MegaChomp
Mega Evolution & Gigantamax

Mega evolutions and Gigantamax ("Gigamax" or "Gmax") forms are treated the same in that they require the corresponding Megastone or Wishing Star to evolve instead of an Evolution Shard. These items are OOS and harder to obtain, but there are no level requirements for either one.

Dynamax forms do not exist in this group and Gigantamax forms are normal sized.

Item Names
  • Megastones are named similarly to in-game names (e.g. Absol has an Aboslite)
  • Wishing Stars are named as "<Pokemon name> Star" (e.g. Drednaw Star for Drednaw)
  • Exceptions are canon in-game names (e.g. Red Orb for Groudon, Rusted Sword for Zacian)

If multiple sides can mega evolve...
  • Then each side that's mega evolving will need their corresponding megastone.
  • Example: To mega evolve all of Venusaur/Blastoise/Absol will need a Venusaurite, Blastoisite and Absolite.
Mixed Breeds

If all sides evolve with levels...
  • The species with the highest level takes priority. Only then can you evolve some or all sides.
Charmander evolves into Charmeleon Lv16 then to Charizard Lv36.
Deino evolves into Zweilous Lv50 then to Hydreigon Lv64.
Charmander/Deino must reach Lv50 to evolve into Charmeleon/Zweilousthen Lv64 for Charizard/Hydreigon.

If all sides evolve with evolution shards...
  • Then one evolution shard is all that's needed to have some or all sides evolve.
Eevee/Growlithe would only need one evolution shard to become a Jolteon/Arcanine.
Or you can use one evolution shard to one side only, then use another in the future to evolve the other side.

If a side requires levels and another requires evo shards...
  • Then the level requirement needs to be met in order to use the stone to have some or all sides evolve.
Charmander/Eevee would need to be Lv16 before you could evolve the Eevee's side.

If a side doesn't evolve at all but the other does...
  • Then you would only have to meet the level and evolution shard requirements outlined above to evolve some or all sides.
Charmander/Absol needs to be Lv16 in order to evolve into Charmeleon/Absol.
Eevee/Absol needs an evolution shard to evolve into Jolteon/Absol.
Charmander/Eevee/Absol needs to be Lv16, then you can use an evolution shard to evolve into Charmeleon/Jolteon/Absol.

Skipping Stages

Skipping Stones can be used to completely skip a stage during evolution and not have to draw it, however it does have some limitations:
  • The Pokemon must have a middle stage to skip or, if it's part of a mix, then at least one species has a middle stage to skip for the evolution.

  • The Pokemon still needs to meet the level or item requirement of the stage it's evolving into.

  • Does not work with skipping to mega evolutions, they are too powerful and require their majestic forms to be drawn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Once evolved, can you still draw the pre-evolved form in flashbacks?
  • Yes, but it won't count for any levels or caps as it's no longer the most up-to-date design.

Can you have several evolutions in a single submission?
  • Yes and you can have multiple Pokemon evolve at the same time too.

Does a Pokemon automatically learn their new moves once they evolve?
  • No, any new moves must be taught in submitted pieces or item use but you can learn a move at the same time as evolving.

Move Learning

To teach your Pokemon a move you will need to make one of the following pieces:
  • artwork featuring two unique images of the Pokemon using that move (can be partial or fullbody, sketched or coloured)
  • literature of 100 words featuring the Pokemon using that move with some context that makes sense
In your submissions you will also need to add the following form in your description (this can be next to your level logging):

Link to move:
How it was learnt:

Earning stardust
When you teach your Pokemon a move, you also gain 50 stardust on top of the caps earned. If you are teaching someone else's Pokemon then this is split between you, and if you are doing a move payment or commission then you get no stardust bonus.
Starting moves
All starter (level 0) moves from the latest generation are automatically learnt when a Pokemon gets their first reference sheet or has a new species mixed in. You cannot automatically learn starter moves from a previous generation and a Pokemon doesn't learn new starter moves after evolving, they must be taught.

Moves learnt through levelling up
There are no level requirements, Pokemon are free to learn any of their levelling moves without needing to be at that levels, including level up moves from previous game generations.

Egg moves, TM/HM moves and Tutor moves
You will need to use a Tutor Berry item in the Item Use & Evolution Chamber while learning the move, this includes non-level up moves from previous game generations.

Non-canon moves
Pokemon with blend traits can learn any move that's in their blend type as long as it makes sense and isn't legendary-specific. (E.g. A flying-blend Charmander can learn Roost but can't learn Wing Attack if it doesn't have any wings. It also can't learn Aeroblast because it's a signature move for Lugia.)

Exclusives and Blue/Blood Moon Pokemon
These Pokemon tend to come with additional starting moves which are listed in their entries. They can also learn moves in their extra typings, similar to blend traits.

Losing Moves
If your Pokemon replaces its mixed species or blend trait that has a move that only works through them, then they also lose the ability to use that move. (E.g. A flying-blend Charmander that knows Roost can't use it if the blend type gets replaced, but can gain it again if it gets the typing back).

Skipping requirements
TM relics are OOS items that allow you to instantly learn a move without meeting the drawing or writing requirement. It can also learn egg/TM/HM/tutor moves without needing to use a Tutor Berry.
